    木のアイコン

Walk the Hidden Villages and Ancient Trails of Matsumoto–Nagawa

Once a bustling trade route between Shinano (Nagano) and Hida (Gifu), the Nomugi Kaidō carried stories of hardship, hope, and connection.

This 1-day trekking tour takes you over the Nomugi Pass, long considered a treacherous winter crossing, as you hike from Nagano into Gifu along the very path once traveled by merchants and young silk workers.

Enjoy a leisurely pace with breaks along the way—perfect even for those without mountain trekking experience. As you walk through forests and past old landmarks, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

A locally prepared bento lunch, featuring seasonal ingredients from the region, is included—offering not just nourishment, but a taste of the land itself.

Overnight accommodation is arranged at a hot spring inn in Sawando Onsen, the gateway to Kamikochi.

This intimate ryokan, with just eight guest rooms, offers a deeply restorative stay in a private, tranquil setting.

The following day, guests may choose to continue on to Kamikochi, extending their journey into one of Japan’s most celebrated alpine landscapes.
