This one-day trekking tour follows the historic Nomugi Pass route that once connected Shinano and Hida. Considered a challenging crossing in winter in earlier times, the trail is traversed from the Nagano side and descends into Gifu, tracing the footsteps of history.
With regular rest stops along the way, the hike is designed to be accessible even for those who are not highly experienced trekkers. As you walk, you’ll feel the atmosphere of another era — a journey that feels like stepping back in time.
Accommodation can be arranged at a nearby hot spring inn, allowing you to relax and recover after the trek.
DAY 01
The tour begins in the satoyama district of "Nyuyama", where you are introduced to the region’s history and way of life. While sensing the atmosphere of the old settlement, you will visit Matsudaya, an Edo-period cultural heritage property.
The trek begins with a gentle uphill climb. Walking at an easy, unhurried pace, you reach the midpoint of the pass in about an hour.
Lunch is enjoyed near the historic Otasuke-goya shelter at Nomugi Pass, featuring a locally crafted bento showcasing regional culinary traditions.
After lunch, enjoy a mostly downhill walk of approximately two hours as the trail leads you toward Takayama. Private transfer is provided by your guide back to the starting point.
Enjoy a restful stay at a hot spring ryokan, with one night including both dinner and breakfast.
